Find Pickaway County Civil Court Dockets

Start a Pickaway County civil docket search by knowing which court holds the case. Higher-value civil matters sit with the Common Pleas clerk, while municipal civil cases run through a different local system. The online docket can confirm a case number, a filing date, or a next setting. It is not a full set of documents. For a signed copy that carries weight, go to the clerk. Note the case number and entry date as you go, since precision matters when the paper itself counts.

Civil Dockets: What They Show

A civil docket tells a story in order. The filing date comes first; later procedural events follow. A motion entry means someone asked, not that a judge ruled. A scheduling order sets a future conference. A judgment label should push you toward the actual signed entry. Common Pleas rules also draw a line between filed material and discovery, which generally stays out of the file unless ordered or used in evidence or motion practice.

Case number and courtThe identifier and court route needed to locate the proceeding and address a request to the correct clerk.
Caption or party locatorA displayed party name helps confirm the result, but the local portals do not promise identical party-field displays.
Filing and event datesUse the filing date, event title, and entry date to distinguish an initial paper from a later order or judgment.
Service and schedulingService completion, a scheduling order, a pretrial, and a hearing setting are different milestones with different effects.
Judgment or entryThe docket label identifies the event; the signed entry or clerk-provided copy is the operative document to read.

CourtView information comes from computerized records and carries no warranty. A restricted screen or a missing attachment tells you nothing about what the case file holds.

Pickaway County Civil Docket Search Fields

Circleville's Record Search is the clearest local form for a municipal civil lookup. No field carries a required marker. So enter at least one meaningful criterion. Ticket number and birth date apply to Traffic and Criminal only. Leave them alone for a civil search.

Keep filing and records requests apart. Filing a case paper and asking for a copy are two different clerk processes.

What Cases Fill the Civil Docket

The Pickaway County Clerk's Legal Department maintains foreclosures, money judgments, garnishments, and civil cases. Common Pleas takes the higher-value civil disputes under its general jurisdiction. Circleville Municipal Court covers lower-value civil disputes and small claims. What shows remotely varies by document and division.

  • Common Pleas civil disputes over the municipal court’s $15,000 ceiling.
  • Foreclosures, money-judgment matters, and garnishments listed by the Clerk Legal Department.
  • Real-estate title issues other than eviction in the Common Pleas General Division.
  • Countywide Circleville Municipal civil disputes at or below $15,000.
  • Small claims proceedings and Common Pleas domestic-relations matters through their separate routes.

A case label names a docket category, nothing more. For the full picture, trust the current docket and the controlling entry.

Pickaway County Civil Docket Motion Landmarks

Common Pleas local rules offer landmarks for reading a civil sequence, not a deadline calculator. Once service is complete, the Assignment Commissioner reviews the case for assignment. Service not completed within six months after filing can trigger a show-cause notice. The court may dismiss without prejudice if good cause is not shown.

Motions generally need a supporting brief. The rules allow 14 days for a response and 7 days for a reply. Summary-judgment responses run on a 28-day clock. A court-set hearing or case-specific order overrides all of those intervals. A written continuance request must state the reason. It must cover consultation where applicable, and include a proposed entry. Even agreement does not force the court to grant it.

Hearings on the Civil Docket

A hearing date is a setting, nothing firmer. Events may not all happen that day. Circleville Record Search offers hearing-date fields. Common Pleas dockets show scheduling orders, pretrials, notices, and later entries. Confirm any date against the newest notice or order in the case. A broad session schedule is not enough. Circleville Municipal Court's Small Claims Division posts Wednesday hearings that begin at 1:30 p.m.

Treat the Wednesday session as orientation only. A summons, current docket entry, or case-specific notice controls the actual time and proceeding. Once you know the case and court, the county's Court Schedule helps with broader hearing checks.

Pickaway County Civil Docket Mediation Limits

Common Pleas can refer an eligible civil matter to mediation. The referral alone does not stay other deadlines or proceedings. That takes a court order. Expect docket entries showing a referral, scheduling notice, stay, reactivation, or termination. These are procedural markers, not a record of what happened in negotiation.

Confidentiality point: Pickaway’s local rules state that civil mediation communications are confidential and are not filed with the Clerk. A sparse mediation segment of a docket is not an incomplete release of those communications.

A mediation entry sets up a meeting. It is not a judgment, a dismissal, or a settlement, so read the order itself and keep the date the entry was made public.

Who Can See Civil Dockets

Civil dockets are public records, and anyone may inspect them. What you can reach online may be narrower, though. The Clerk's office can show you more at the counter. CourtView states plainly that Ohio law keeps some documents off the internet. The Clerk's policy also allows redaction of exempt details. It releases the rest of a filing where that is appropriate. One gap matters here. Civil protection and stalking civil protection case records are not available through the internet CourtView service. So take questions about individual access straight to the Clerk's office.

Key rules:

Ohio Revised Code 149.43 governs public-record access, copying, lawful redaction, and explanations for denials.

Ohio Revised Code 2303.901 defines Common Pleas court records to include dockets, case files, journals, and indexes while excluding protected information.

Ohio Rules of Superintendence 44 through 47 provide statewide definitions and procedures for court-record access and remote access limits.

Access works differently for different pieces of the same case file. The statutory source on Common Pleas court records shows why: a Pickaway County civil docket entry and its attachments can carry different remote-access status under the same rule.

So ask for what you need by name. When a Pickaway County clerk withholds part of a record request, request the legal basis for that decision too.

Pickaway County Civil Docket Filing and Copy Routes

Filing online and reading a court docket online are two different jobs. Common Pleas civil cases go through CourtView. The Circleville Municipal eFile page takes you to Henschen eFile instead. It also carries a warning worth heeding. File after noon and the court may not process your submission until the next business day. That is a processing note, not extra time. It also does not make every attachment public from your desk.

Need a copy of something already filed in Common Pleas? The Clerk's public-records policy spells out three ways to ask. Email is one. Mail with a self-addressed stamped envelope is another. A visit to the office is the third. Include the case number, party name, pleading title, and filing date. Email copies are free. Mail and in-person copies run $0.10 per page with a $2 minimum. Preparation can take three to five business days. Circleville Municipal publishes no general copy or certification fee schedule, so confirm costs with that clerk before you pay.

Federal filings follow a third, separate route. The Southern District of Ohio electronic filing page handles them. Those cases never appear in Pickaway CourtView or Circleville Record Search.

So confirm the court first. Every civil docket search, and every records request to a local clerk, depends on knowing which system actually holds the file.
